BongwonTemple was originally built on the site of today's Yonsei University(form -er Yonhi palace) by Great master Dose -on (827-898 A.D.) in 889 A.D., 3rd year of Jinseong Queen, the 51st of Shilla Dynas -ty. And moved this place in 1748, 24th year of Yongjo the Great in Choseon Dynasty, by high monk Chanjeub and zen master Jeungam, with Buddhists and the help of the King's authority....

The Yeongsanjae Ceremony is a symbo -lic reenactment of the historical Buddha Sakyamuni's delivery of the Lotus Sutra on Mt. Grdhrakuta some 2,600 years ago, in which offerings are made to the Buddh -a and Bodhisattvas in attendance. The ceremony is held in hopes of leading both the living and the departed into the joy of enlightenment and perpetual peace  ....
